You’ve got it down to two plugins, and every comparison you read lands in the same place: FlyingPress is faster, WP Rocket is easier. Both of those are true, but which one is actually better for your site?
So, the short version. FlyingPress gives you more speed and more control, and it expects you to tune it. WP Rocket’s defaults are conservative enough to survive almost any host, and it asks very little of you in return. At a single site, FlyingPress and WP Rocket both cost $59 a year, so price is a wash.

What FlyingPress and WP Rocket each do
Both plugins do the same core job: cache your pages, shrink your CSS and JavaScript, and defer whatever the browser doesn’t need yet. There is, however, a difference in how involved you are in this process.
FlyingPress
FlyingPress is a self-hosted WordPress performance plugin tuned to real-user field data. Developer Gijo Varghese builds for what CrUX actually measures, and the feature list shows it: Core Web Vitals tracking reports TTFB, LCP, INP and CLS from your own visitors, with country and page filters added in June.
Since version 5.3 in January 2026, it also compresses images itself, converting JPEG and PNG to WebP or AVIF on FlyingPress’s cloud servers. The 5.6 release added Redis object caching. Its CDN is the one piece sold separately: FlyingCDN runs on Cloudflare Enterprise at $10 per domain per month.
Pick FlyingPress if you’ll actually open the settings. Its defaults are aggressive, and almost everything is a toggle, so the plugin is better for a site owner who tests and tunes. It’s the newer and smaller of the two, averaging 4.7 out of 5 across 320 Trustpilot reviews.
WP Rocket
WP Rocket is a self-hosted WordPress caching and optimization plugin built to deliver most of its gains without configuration. The company’s own claim is that activation applies “80% of web performance best practices”—page caching, preloading, GZIP, lazy rendering and eCommerce exclusions all switch on by themselves.
It’s also improving a lot. Rocket Insights, its built-in performance monitor, became free on every license in March 2026, and since June, every license includes RocketCDN on three pages of your choosing across 10 edge locations with unlimited bandwidth. Image optimization, though, is still a gap: WP Rocket lazy-loads them but leaves compression and WebP conversion to Imagify, a separate subscription.
Pick WP Rocket if you want to install it and walk away. Its defaults are cautious by design, which is why it comes through most themes and page builders intact, and a large part of why it averages 4.6 out of 5 across 2,968 Trustpilot reviews.
What’s the difference between FlyingPress and WP Rocket?
Since page caching, minification, critical CSS, and lazy loading are close to level across both plugins, the way they handle images, CDN, object caching, and offscreen rendering is what’s probably going to help you make a choice.
- Images. FlyingPress compresses and converts them itself, on its own cloud servers. WP Rocket’s docs are blunt about the gap: the plugin “is not designed to compress images or create WebP or AVIF versions”, so it points you to Imagify. If images are your LCP element—and on most WordPress sites they are—that’s a second subscription immediately.
- CDN. Both now include one, at very different scales. WP Rocket covers three pages of your choosing across 10 edge locations at no extra cost. FlyingCDN covers the whole site from 310 locations on Cloudflare Enterprise, and bills $10 per domain per month on top of the license.
- Object caching. FlyingPress added Redis object caching in June 2026, holding repeat database queries in memory between page loads. It’s the one item here with no counterpart in WP Rocket’s feature set.
- Offscreen rendering. Both defer what’s below the fold, and each claims a different metric for it. FlyingPress applies content-visibility: auto and credits the result to TBT and TTI; WP Rocket’s Automatic Lazy Rendering targets INP.

Under three sites, the two land within $10 of each other. Above 25, the difference is a lot bigger: FlyingPress’s Unlimited plan covers any number of sites for $279, and WP Rocket prices by bracket up to $599 at 500 sites. For a freelancer running more than 50 client sites, that’s $279 against a minimum of $299 up to the largest plan.
The add-ons are also important. FlyingPress’s license covers images. A WP Rocket site that needs them adds Imagify from $4.99 a month billed yearly, and full-site CDN coverage adds RocketCDN at $7.99 a month for license holders. Both together push a single WP Rocket site past $200 a year.
That is why it’s important to take the time to understand why you need a plugin in the first place; otherwise, you may end up paying for features you won’t use or choosing an option that isn’t suitable for your needs.
Is FlyingPress faster than WP Rocket?
In real-user data, yes—by about four percentage points. In lab tests, the two are level.
CommerceGurus tested each plugin and found FlyingPress “achieved results comparable to those of WP Rocket”: both brought a slow page to 1.8 seconds on default settings, and WP Rocket reached 1.2 seconds once it was tuned by hand. WPGlossy’s single-site test put FlyingPress 0.2 seconds ahead on LCP. On a configured site, either plugin gets you there.
Field data separates them. HTTP Archive publishes the share of real origins passing Core Web Vitals on each technology, drawn from what Chrome measures on actual visits:

WP Rocket’s figure averages 280,000 sites across every grade of hosting. FlyingPress’s covers a smaller group who picked it deliberately and tend to tune it.

Can you run FlyingPress and WP Rocket together?
No. Run one optimization plugin at a time. FlyingPress’s docs say it plainly: “We strongly recommend not using any additional page caching or page optimization plugins alongside FlyingPress.” Duplicate minification or lazy loading from two sources causes layout breaks and wasted CPU. FlyingPress auto-disables conflicting features in five named plugins, and WP Rocket is absent from that list, so nothing catches the overlap for you.
Does FlyingPress or WP Rocket work on Kinsta or WP Engine?
Both do. Neither plugin appears on Kinsta’s banned list—Cache Enabler is the only caching plugin named there, and Kinsta says WP Rocket came off that list when the two became partners. FlyingPress lists Kinsta, WP Engine, and Pressable as tested hosts in its own docs. One thing to understand: those hosts already cache pages at the server level, so what either plugin adds is the CSS, JavaScript and image work. WP Engine customers also have NitroPack available natively from the admin panel.
Which is better for WooCommerce?
Both exclude cart, checkout, and account pages from the cache automatically. The difference shows up once items are in the cart. FlyingPress keeps serving the cached page and relies on your theme updating the cart count by AJAX; if the theme uses PHP instead, you add a bypass cookie, which FlyingPress warns will lower your cache hit ratio. WP Rocket optimizes the get_refreshed_fragments request that keeps cart widgets current, and purges a product’s cache when stock changes at checkout.
